Registering BT ADL’s and ADR’s
This document is a how-to guide showing the steps for registering ADL / ADR mac’s on Unity and Broadsign, issues that may arise and the steps to resolve too. When a Mac registration request comes in from BT-Staging for an ADL/ADR follow the steps below.
Stage 1 - Unity :
Remove the colons and search for the Mac in Unity in the search field. If the Mac profile or a Unit containing the mac appears. Open it and skip to step 9.
If the search returns nothing? It could be set as a retired Mac in a Unity Profile or it has never been registered.
Go to the DB and and open the unit_pcs table and search for the Mac using the Filter Rows field. Again, without the colons. Ask a Tech Level 2 member to do this if needed.
The Mac should appear. And you can use the unit_id to locate it on Unity. Navigate to any Unit on Unity and overwrite the unit_id at the righter most end of the address with the five character unit_id, hit enter and the Unit profile containing the Mac/Player will open. If the Mac doesn’t appear? It has to be registered a-fresh on Unity.
Go back to Unity and navigate to the Spares directory in the BT Staging section. Click “Units” on the vertical menu on the left hand side.
You will see the drop-down in the “Location” section. Click this and Select “ “BT Staging”
Then Click “Spares” and the Spares section opens
Click “New Unit” and the pop up opens. Populate the fields “Name” and “Mac Address” with the Mac address, again without the colons. Click “Create” and the Mac/Player should appear in the Unit profile if the Mac/Player is online. If it doesn’t appear it will appear when it comes online. Keep the Mac Profile tab open. It’s best to have a couple of Unity Tabs open when doing this.
At this point you can move the Player/Mac into the BB unit of choice. Best to use a BB that hasn’t got an active Mac/Player in it. If that’s not possible, retire the active Mac/Player in the BB unity profile.
In the “open search field” at the top, enter BB- and the entire list of BB units will show. Select an inactive BB(one that has the red icon) and the BB profile will open.
Go back to the tab with the Mac profile that has the Mac/PLayer in it that you need to Move to the BB. Select the Player/Mac and Highlight it.
Click Move and the pop up opens.
In the Select Location dropdown select “Test Units”
And Using the Unit dropdown select the BB you’ve chosen in step 10.
Click Move.
Refresh the BB Unity profile and the Player/Mac will be gone.
Navigate back to the tab with the BB unit you’ve moved the Player/Mac to. Refresh and you will see it as the active Mac/Player.
The Mac/Player is now set to the BB unit on Unity.
Stage 2 - Broadsign registration :
Go to Broadsign.
On the vertical menu on the left hand side select the “Search” feature and search for the Mac. This time including colons between each two characters. This will show you if it’s already assigned to a Player on Broadsign, already in a Spare or BB test Player. If the search does return a player, skip to Stage 2A.
If the mac search returns nothing you can proceed with registering.
On the vertical menu on the left hand side select “Registrations” and you will see the Registrations section.
Right-Click on the Streethub folder and select “Add Registration” and the Registration Wizard opens.
Click Next .
Click Select and navigate to the BB Unit you want to Register to. It will be contained in the Streethub folder that is a sub folder of the main Streethub folder, its near the bottom of the list. Click the drop-down arrow next to the main Streethub folder, scroll down and click the dropdown arrow next to the Streethub sub folder and select the BB unit you’ve chosen and click OK.
Click Next.
Click Next.
Enter the Mac into the “Primary MAC Address” field. It’s very important that there is no blank spaces at the beginning of the mac and at the end of the mac.
Click Next.
Click Select and highlight the Streethub folder.
Click Next.
At this point you are selecting the Configuration. Click Select.
Click the drop down arrow beside the Streethub folder and select Streethub Config and click OK.
Click Next.
At this point we have an option to use a players “licence” if there is a suitable player that’s been offline a good period of time. Doesn’t happen much nowadays but if there is one suitable then take it by ticking the tick-box and navigating to the suitable player and Select, click Next and click Finish. If there isn’t a suitable player that you can use the license from then go to the next step
Click Next.
Click Finish.
If you encounter a Mac Conflict error? The mac is already registered. However steps 2 and 3 above should eliminate that from occurring.
The registration is now set on Broadsign and when the Mac/Player pings Broadsign it will complete registration and come online and also show as being fully online on Unity. Monitor Unity and Broadsign for registration completion. The Player will be automatically removed from the Registrations list on Broadsign when it completes registration and the Unit on Unity will show online.
Stage 2A - only use this stage if the search in step 2 in Stage 2 above returns a player.
You won’t need to register the Mac/Player in Broadsign because it already exists in Broadsign.
Open the player returned in the Search to edit the “Player Properties”
Click the Display Unit tab
Click Select and navigate to the BB player in the Streethub subfolder near the bottom of the list and select the BB player you’ve chosen in Unity and click OK.
Click on the General Tab and Overwrite the name field with the BB label.
Click OK.
It should be online. If not, bring it online.
Stage 3 - Moving to Spares on Unity :
Navigate to the BB unit you’ve registered the Mac/Player to.
Select the Mac/Player and Click Move Player.
In the Select Location dropdown select Spares.
In the Unit dropdown select the specific Mac from the list and click Move.
Stage 4 - Moving to Spares on Broadsign :
Go back to Broadsign.
Locate the BB player you’ve created. Best to always have the “Network Status Report” open and the “Find” form open on Broadsign at all times. Enter the BB label / name and click Next. The BB will be highlighted on the list.
Click on the Player and it will bring you straight to the player, showing it highlighted.
Double click the Player.
Click the Display Unit Tab and click Clear.
Click the General Tab and Overwrite the BB name/label with SPARE.
Click OK
Drag and Drop the “SPARE” player into the Spares folder.
Congratulations you’ve now successfully registered an ADL/ADR and moved it to Spares.
To open the Network Status Report. Click players on the vertical menu on the left hand side of Broadsign. You will see the List of Folders : Players, ADXBA, NON-Production etc… Right click on Players and select Network Status Report. Tick the two tick-boxes for Offline and Online and click Finish. When the report opens click Find. Always best practice to keep this open at all times. It shows all the BT players, online or offline. It’s a great feature to check the status of all the players on the BT domain and locate players on Broadsign in an instant using the Find form. Always refresh the report as statuses change on a regular basis sometimes.
