Due to the way Dublins network is setup it is sometimes necessary to create new scopes to allow new units (or units that have been moved) to communicate within the network.
When we ask for a port to be activated normally we will get an email such as the one below stating what the VLAN and and the anticipated IP of the unit will be:
Notice that its on the 10.91 range, which means its in Terminal 2, we’ll need to check and see if its in the scope on the DUBADS Server
So, from within our VPN you need to jump on the DUBADS server using remote desktop, its IP address is 10.90.1.10
Because the server is on the domain, you need to be careful to ensure that the username is DUBADSSERVER\adxba rather than office.local\adxba, otherwise you won’t be able to login.
When you get onto the server open the DHCP application within the start menu.
Within the DHCP application you will see all of the existing scopes, you need to check and see if the range that has been asked for exists (in our example, we’re looking for 10.91.75.0, which doesn’t exist).
If it DOES exist then you don’t need to worry about creating the scope, but do make sure that that there are enough ip addresses left.
OK, so right click the superscope and click new scope.
This will then take you through a nice and easy wizard to create.
Start off by naming the network, its best to follow the naming convention that we already use, acc then the range for T1 or swa and then the range for T2, for this example the name is swa75
Click next when you’re happy.
In the next window you need to add the range exactly, please note ANY typos in there will mean it just won’t work so double check…
We are going to create 90 leases on the scope from 10.91.75.10 to 10.91.75.100.
Then we are going to set the subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 which will give each client on this network range full access to the 10.91.75.0 range (/24).
OK, we don’t need any exclusions, so just click next past this...
The lease duration (how long a system will keep its IP) is set by default at 8 days, that fine, so skip on.
In the next window you can skip the config steps, but you want to make sure you do it now...
OK, so the gateway for each scope is different, you need to make sure it is on .250 on the range that you are creating. So in this situation its 10.91.75.250.
In the next page you need to setup the DNS servers, by default the parent domain is already filled in, which you want to keep.
It also has put in some default DNS servers which we don’t want, so delete them.
Once you’ve done that, add in the DUBADS server as the only DNS server, this means we can control how this is allocated and get our selves out of trouble if we have unity issues etc. the IP of the server is 10.90.1.10
Same for WINS, delete any defaults and add this server (10.90.1.10)
At the end of the wizard it will ask you if you want to activate, click yes, otherwise this was pointless!
OK, nice done and nice and easy, its worth checking the DHCP client list to see if the unit is online (if its already installed obviously!)
